Creating Healing Balms

On Monday, I took the day off work since I am having to burn some vacation time and made some herbal balms that have been a couple of weeks in the making.

The first step was to infuse coconut oil with the herbs over the course of about two weeks. I let the sun do the heating and just shook them periodically to get the herbs to infuse with the oil.

The second step was to combine the oils into batches that had complimentary healing properties. Batch one is a calming mix and batch two is an antibiotic and anti-inflammatory mix. Once combined, I let them sit and marinate for a few days.

I then took a small slow cooker that I use only for making balms like this and added equal parts of coconut oil mix, raw shea butter, and beeswax pellets. I slowly let those all melt down and combine. Once liquid, I poured them into jars.

Once they cooled down, the balms were ready for use. I used some of the second batch since I had some nasty hangnails from camping and when I woke up this morning, my fingertips were feeling much better and the skin was much less inflamed around the nail beds.

I'll be adding the balms to the shop this weekend once I can print up some labels and write down good descriptions of each!

Leah
