Lughnasadh

This weekend was the harvest festival of Lughnasadh. In the Catholic church, it is referred to as Lammas, which means Bread Mass, and is a celebration of the first wheat harvest. I only had a couple of tomatoes still ripening on the vine for my actual food harvest this year, so I decided to celebrate with some other fun ways.

First, I set up a simmer pot using fruits and herbs that would be associated with the sun. I chose orange slices, cinnamon, cloves, bay leaves, mugwort, honey, and chamomile. I let that simmer all morning and it filled the house with a lovely scent.

I also spent some time creating. My husband and I sat together and worked on Lego for fun.

I also worked on diamond painted coasters with a celestial theme. I was able to get 3 of the 8 coasters completed.

I spent some time outside and offered the remnants of the simmer pot to the forest. I enjoyed the sun on my face and sent my thanks for the life-giving rays that come from the sun and warm the land. I was surrounded by my bird friends and was visited by a couple of hummingbirds to boot. It was a lovely weekend and I hope you all had a good one and were able to celebrate nature in whatever way you felt best.
